Ekiti Guber: ‘Wait for your time’ – Bode Ola tells APC aspirant

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Bode Ola, has appealed to governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo, to exercise patience and allow Governor Biodun Oyebanji to complete a second term in office before pursuing his own political ambitions.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, Ola, a former lawmaker who represented Ekiti Central in the 6th National Assembly, declared his full support for Oyebanji’s re-election bid ahead of the July 20, 2026 governorship contest.

He cautioned Ojo, regarded as the main challenger to the incumbent, against heating up the political atmosphere in Ekiti State, urging him instead to support ongoing developmental and urban renewal projects.

Ola acknowledged Ojo as a brilliant, industrious, and forward-thinking politician with noble ideas for the state, but maintained that “his time has not yet come.”

He argued that Oyebanji’s record in agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure had won the confidence of the people, who he said were eager to see him consolidate on his achievements.

“As a former senator and prominent leader in Ado Ekiti and Ekiti Central, many people have sought my opinion on the political situation in the state, especially between Engr. Kayode Ojo and Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, BAO,” Ola stated.

“Kayode Ojo is calm, calculated, and highly resourceful. He has great plans for Ekiti, but there is a time for everything. Just as Jesus told His mother in John 2:4 that His hour had not yet come, I believe Ojo’s moment is still ahead.

“The mood across Ekiti is that BAO has performed excellently, and the people want him to continue. To think otherwise is unrealistic. I have even advised some of Ojo’s supporters to stop deceiving themselves.”

The former senator noted that his endorsement of Oyebanji was not merely political, but grounded in personal integrity and the governor’s visible achievements across communities, especially in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

“As a fair and reasonable leader, I have chosen to stand with BAO because of his good works. I join other stakeholders who believe he deserves to complete his second term,” he added.

It would be recalled that Ojo, a businessman and current Chairman of the Governing Board of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, officially declared his intention to contest the governorship election by obtaining APC nomination forms on August 26.

He is expected to face Oyebanji at the party’s primary scheduled for October 27, 2025.
