Nigeria Defeat Zimbabwe To Qualify For U-19 Cricket World Cup

Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team defeated Zimbabwe to qualify for the 2025 ICC U-19 World Cup in Malaysia.

The Junior Female Greens produced a stunning performance to win the Africa Qualifier Division 1 title in Kigali, and booked their place in the World Cup in style after defeating Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Rwanda on their way to victory.

Nigeria finished top of the qualifiers with an unbeaten run to qualify for the country’s second Cricket world cup.

The first time Nigeria qualified for a Cricket world cup was in 2019 when the U-19 men’s team booked a place in the competition.

Nigeria had earlier recorded a one-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the group stage to set up a tough encounter in the final.

Victory Igbinedion made 23 runs from 18 balls for Nigeria in the first innings to post 77 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

Zimbabwe recovered to record 19 runs for the loss of one wicket in 2.3 overs, before rain disrupted the clash to give Nigeria victory.

Nigeria will compete with New Zealand, South Africa, and Samoa in Group C of the competition.

The second edition of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, 2025.
