Bitcoin Briefly Drops Below $100K Amid Reports of Iran Striking US Bases

Crypto market shaken amid Mt. Gox payouts, German govt Bitcoin moves

Growing tensions between Iran and the United States rattled global markets on Monday, dragging Bitcoin below the $100,000 mark after reports surfaced of Iranian missile attacks on U.S. military bases in Qatar.

Bitcoin briefly dipped to $99,500 on major exchanges before recovering above $102,000 within minutes, reflecting high volatility in response to unconfirmed reports shared by several prominent accounts on X (formerly Twitter). Altcoins also saw brief selloffs—Ethereum, XRP, and Solana all dropped sharply before bouncing back on the hourly charts.

The market reaction underscores how sensitive crypto remains to geopolitical shocks, especially amid heightened global uncertainty. While no official confirmation has been issued by either government, images and videos circulating online appeared to show active missile launches and U.S. air defences being deployed in Qatar.

The situation adds to the already growing instability following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22. Analysts warn that any additional military action from either side could trigger further turbulence.

In particular, market watchers are closely monitoring the possibility of Iranian retaliation in the form of a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz—a critical passage for global oil shipments—or coordinated strikes on other U.S. military assets in the region.

Until more clarity emerges, traders are bracing for continued volatility in the crypto markets, with Bitcoin’s psychological $100,000 level now a key focal point for market sentiment.
