Those Hoping To Ride On Popularity Of Obi, Otti In 2027 Will Fail, LP Chieftain Warns Lawmakers

Chidi Moses Onuoha, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the performance of the party’s lawmakers at both the federal and state levels.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, Onuoha lamented that most Labour Party lawmakers, who were elected due to the popularity of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have failed to deliver quality governance to their people.

In Abia State, Onuoha acknowledged that Governor Alex Otti has been performing well but noted that the lawmakers have become complacent. He warned that this trend would not continue beyond the next election cycle.

“Any lawmaker hoping to cash in on the popularity of Governor Alex Otti and Mr Peter Obi will fail woefully in 2027,” Onuoha stated. “We are going to apply the strategy of how to vote and how not to vote in 2027.”

Onuoha emphasized that lawmakers cannot rely on the party’s structure to win elections only to neglect their responsibilities afterward. “You can’t use our structure to win election and then abandon the people that voted you or be hiding from us,” he said.

He also cautioned those who expect to benefit from Governor Otti’s good performance in their campaigns. “Many of them hoping to use the good performance of Governor Alex Otti to win election would be disappointed as we will only work for those that performed, not failures,” Onuoha warned.

He said Obi and Governor Otti remain popular due to their performances, but urged lawmakers to focus on delivering projects that matter to their constituents.

“The lawmakers should work convincingly to attract life-saving projects to their constituents if they hope to be re-elected,” Onuoha added.
