A member of the Labour Party, Avotu Johnson, has insisted that Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the party based on its constitution.

Johnson made the remark in response to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to recognise Abure as the National Chairman of the party.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Johnson said INEC had failed to understand its role as a regulatory organisation.

He said: “I don’t think so. What is missing there is INEC’s understanding of their role as a regulatory organisation.

“The Supreme Court’s judgment told the world in its CTC that the leadership of every political party should be the business of the party, so who is the party?

“The statutory members of LP, the Chairman and Secretary of the party who have the right to conduct or convene a convention.

“Abure remains the national chairman of Labour Party based on the constitution of the party.”
