Iran Wanted To Destroy Us, Israel Tells UN
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, has written to the United Nations accusing Iran of a long-term strategy to destroy Israel and defending recent Israeli military actions as pre-emptive and necessary.
In a letter shared on his X account, Sa’ar said he had addressed the note to both the president of the UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
He argued that Israel’s strikes on Iran last Friday were in response to “decades” of systematic aggression and open threats by Iranian leaders to annihilate the Israeli state.“It is not merely rhetoric.
Iran has a strategic plan to eliminate Israel, which includes concrete plans and actions to achieve this goal,” the letter reads.
Sa’ar said Israel had acted during its “last window of opportunity” to prevent an anticipated Iranian assault, pointing to the deaths of 24 Israeli civilians in what he described as “indiscriminate” and deliberate attacks by Iran.
Iran’s health ministry, however, reported that at least 224 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the Israeli strikes, a figure released on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced a phased reopening in parts of the country, describing it as a “message of victory” over Iran.
Katz said the military campaign aimed to protect the Israeli population and that the reopening of regions and the economy would proceed based on evolving security conditions.
Despite this, he emphasised that the “intense fighting” with Iran would continue “until the threats are removed.”
