Five Injured In Christmas Day Accident in Lagos

Accident

At least five people sustained serious injuries on Christmas Day in an accident that occurred at Iyana-Era, inward Agbara, along the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

The crash involved two commercial buses.

It was gathered that one of the buses was speeding toward Agbara when its brakes failed, leading to a collision with another bus that was stationary and loading passengers at the side of the road.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the T4 commercial bus, bearing registration number LSD 668 YE, was traveling at an excessive speed toward Agbara when its braking system failed. This mechanical malfunction led to a rear-end collision with an LT commercial bus (BDG 728 YE), which was stationary while loading passengers at Iyana-Iba bus stop,” Adebayo explained.

In a prompt response, LASTMA officials rescued five injured passengers—three males and two females—and transported them to Eva-Life Hospital, located at Pako near Iyana-Era, for urgent medical attention.

Reacting to the accident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy for the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.

He also emphasized the critical importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly the braking system, and advised all drivers to ensure thorough checks before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos State.
