The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese and Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has commended Governor Uba Sani for his efforts in stabilising Kaduna State.

Kukah, during a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, on Tuesday evening, expressed his gratitude for the governor’s support for the university and also praised him for his commitment to promoting peace and development in the state.

“We are grateful for the governor’s efforts in making this university a reality. We have built on the pioneering efforts of the former NOK University, and we promise that it will be one of the best in the country,” Kukah said.

He further disclosed that the university is set to commence academic sessions in September but faces some challenges that require the state’s intervention. The bishop highlighted the need for more infrastructure, land expansion, access roads, utility vehicles, and adequate security.

“The university will need more infrastructure in the coming years, and for this reason, it requires more land for expansion,” Kukah pleaded.

In response, Sani expressed his commitment to supporting the university and its development.

“I have been working closely with Bishop Kukah not just on the university but on a number of issues. My doors are always open, and I reiterate my commitment to deepen consultation amongst the diverse people of Kaduna State, irrespective of their ethno-religious or party affiliations,” the governor said.

He further attributed the prevailing peace in Kaduna State to his administration’s policy of taking development to every part of the state, regardless of whether or not the area voted for him.

“There has never been any ethnic or religious crisis since I assumed office about two years ago. I believe that peace is achieved because of our policy of taking development to every part of the state,” Sani said.

Speaking on the security issue, Sani noted that although there are a lot of military formations in Kachia, he will collaborate with the Chief of Defence Staff to strengthen security and promised to sit down with members of his administration on the issue of utility vehicles.

He also disclosed that the Minister of Education promised that funds would be made available to the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, through TETFUND.

He promised to allocate more land to the university, adding that the Managing Director of Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA) will assess the access road to the school for necessary action.
