Liverpool have hijacked Newcastle’s pursuit of Victor Munoz by triggering the Osasuna winger’s release clause.
According to Sky Sports, the Reds have agreed a deal worth £34.6m (€40m) for the Spain international. He is set to become Andoni Iraola’s first signing.
The 22-year-old has completed a medical in the United States, where he is on World Cup duty with Spain.
Liverpool staff travelled out to carry out the checks, with the Spanish federation granting permission. He is expected to sign a six-year contract, with the fee paid in two instalments.

It is a familiar tale for Newcastle. The Magpies were in advanced talks for Munoz, having lined him up to replace Anthony Gordon.
Liverpool simply paid the clause in full, echoing last summer’s raid for Hugo Ekitike. Sporting director Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards drove the move.
Iraola’s influence was significant. The new head coach knows Munoz well from his deep knowledge of LaLiga, and the player’s profile suits his direct, high-tempo style.

Primarily a left-sided forward, Munoz can play across the front line and through the middle.
His pedigree is intriguing. He came through Barcelona’s La Masia before switching to Real Madrid’s academy in 2023.
Xabi Alonso handed him his LaLiga bow in May 2025, replacing Vinicius Junior against Barcelona. He then joined Osasuna and scored six goals in 34 league games last season.
The signing does not end Liverpool’s wider plans as they want a second winger to replace Mohamed Salah.
RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is their top target. Leipzig, though, want more than £86m and are fighting to keep him.
It also clouds Federico Chiesa’s future. The Italian started just once in the league under Arne Slot and wanted a fresh chance under Iraola.
Munoz’s arrival and the likelihood of another wide signing leave Chiesa facing a fight for minutes with interest waiting in Italy.
