I ended a relationship to pursue acting — Oyinade Adegbenro

By Ayo Onikoyi
Nollywood actress, Oyinade Adegbenro, has revealed that she made the difficult decision to end a relationship in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
Adegbenro, who hails from Kwara State, said her passion for acting became so strong that she was willing to leave her family and loved ones behind and relocate to Lagos in pursuit of a career in the movie industry.
According to the actress, acting has always been more than a career choice for her, describing it as a calling she could not ignore despite exploring other interests.
“I believe acting is my calling. Acting chose me. I’ve always loved acting right from childhood, and I realised that despite trying my hands on other things, I derive more joy from acting,” she said.
She disclosed that her journey into Nollywood has required several sacrifices, including leaving her loved ones in Kwara State and making Lagos her new base. Among the sacrifices, she said, was ending a relationship because of her determination to pursue acting.
“I have sacrificed a lot to be an actress, like leaving my loved ones in Kwara State and moving down to Lagos. Also, I ended a relationship to pursue this dream. In fact, there are so many others that I won’t want to discuss here,” she added.
For Adegbenro, the decision became particularly difficult when she was confronted with the choice between her relationship and her acting career. She recalled the moment as one of the most unforgettable experiences of her life.
“I remember every line like it was yesterday. It was like I was on a hot seat,” she said, reflecting on the night she was asked to choose between acting and her former partner.
The actress, who studied Mass Communication at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, has since continued to pursue her ambition in Nollywood, building experience through a number of movie projects.
Adegbenro has featured in films including Yeye Oge, Aapon, Legelege, Ejaa, Obsession and Sorry, among others.
For the actress, however, the journey is still unfolding. Having sacrificed relationships, comfort and proximity to her loved ones to pursue her passion, Adegbenro appears determined to establish herself on the Nigerian screen and prove that her decision to choose acting was worth the price.
