Temi Vs Imisi: Different seasons, different strokes

By Ayo Onikoyi
Big Brother Naija Season 11 winner, Temi Nkem, may have inherited the crown from Season 10 winner Imisi, but the voting figures that delivered both housemates their respective victories tell two markedly different stories.
Temi secured the Season 11 title with 25.87 per cent of the final votes, edging Aikou, who finished as first runner-up with 23.68 per cent. The 2.19 percentage-point margin made the latest finale one of the closest contests at the top in the show’s recent history.
The outcome contrasts sharply with Imisi’s victory in Season 10, when she polled 42.8 per cent of the final votes to emerge winner. Her winning figure represented more than two-fifths of the total vote, giving her a considerably stronger numerical advantage over her closest rivals.
The gap between the two winners’ vote shares stands at 16.93 percentage points. While Temi won with just over a quarter of the final votes, Imisi commanded nearly half of the votes cast during her season’s finale, underlining the different dynamics that shaped the two competitions.
Temi’s victory came after 10 weeks in Biggie’s House, where she navigated nominations, evictions, tasks, relationships and alliances before making it to the finale. She eventually prevailed in a nine-housemate finale after Keivo’s disqualification, beating Aikou and Sheba, who finished first and second runners-up respectively.
The Season 11 finale also produced a more fragmented voting pattern. After Temi’s 25.87 per cent and Aikou’s 23.68 per cent, Sheba accounted for 9.80 per cent, while the remaining votes were shared among the other finalists. The figures suggest that support was spread across several contenders rather than concentrated around one dominant favourite.
Imisi’s Season 10 campaign, on the other hand, culminated in a more commanding numerical victory. Her 42.8 per cent vote share showed that she had built a considerably larger voting bloc by the finale, allowing her to claim the crown with a level of support Temi did not need to match to win his season.
The contrast also demonstrates an important feature of BBNaija: winning does not necessarily require the highest overall vote share recorded by a previous champion. In a competitive finale, a housemate only needs to finish ahead of the other finalists, regardless of how widely the remaining votes are distributed.
Beyond the numbers, both victories were significant in their own seasons. Imisi became the Season 10 champion, while Temi, the fifth female winner in the show’s history, succeeded her as the latest holder of the BBNaija crown.
Temi’s victory also came with a ₦90 million cash prize and a new SUV, after ₦10 million from the original ₦100 million prize package was allocated to the Most Influential Player of the Season (MIPOW).
With Temi now taking over from Imisi, the contrasting voting figures provide a snapshot of two different BBNaija seasons: one producing a dominant winner and the other ending with a tightly fought race that was decided by just 2.19 percentage points.
