Viktor Gyokeres speaks out on Arsenal future amid Julian Alvarez swap deal speculation

Viktor Gyokeres admits he is ‘flattered’ to have been linked with a move away from Arsenal but has hinted he wants to remain part of Mikel Arteta’s future plans.

The Sweden international ended his first season in English football as a Premier League champion following his high-profile move from Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres earned his move to the north London club on the back of over a century of goals in two seasons during his time in Portugal but found the going far tougher in England.

Although he finished with a respectable total of 21 goals in all competitions, he struggled to fully convinced and ended the season largely playing second fiddle to Kai Havertz.

Arteta is looking to strengthen his forward line again this summer and has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in a deal that would potentially see Julian Alvarez move in the opposite direction.

Asked about his future ahead of Sweden’s World Cup knockout game against France, Gyokeres said: ‘Of course it’s flattering to see that clubs are interested but I feel extremely comfortable at Arsenal.

‘After the season we have had, I only have positive feelings.’

Gyokeres’ immediate focus remains on Sweden’s World Cup campaign with a knockout game against France on the horizon.

Graham Potter’s side started with a convincing win against Tunisia before they took a hammering against an in-form Dutch outfit.

A creditable draw against Japan earned Sweden a place in the last 32 but France and a battle against Arsenal teammate represents a formidable test for Gyokeres and his teammates.

He said: ‘We have to be at our best, we have to do our defensive organisation almost perfect and then of course take the chances we’re going to get in the game.

‘Yeah I’m looking forward to seeing him and to playing against him, it’s going to be fun.

‘We have our confidence, I think we have to believe in ourselves, we’ve seen in a lot of games this tournament that you can win games and you can do well even though you play against the best teams.

‘So of course, we might be the underdogs but we stil believe in ourselves.’
