Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has urged his teammates to remain focused and disciplined as they prepare to face Lesotho in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria are desperate for victory after a shaky start to their qualification campaign, with the upcoming fixtures against Lesotho and the Benin Republic now considered must-win games to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Victories against the Crocodiles and Benin would lift the Super Eagles to 17 points and keep their hopes of securing a World Cup ticket alive.

What Troost-Ekong Said Ahead Of Lesotho Clash

Speaking ahead of the clash, Troost-Ekong acknowledged that Lesotho have been impressive in the group and warned that the Super Eagles must not underestimate their opponents.

“Yeah, we’re approaching this the same way we approached the game against South Africa. It’s important for us to go for all three points.

We have to show Lesotho respect — they’ve done well in the group and have picked up points against us also. So, yeah, it’s going to be an important game for both of us.

We’ve just been focused on our preparation. Like the coach said, we had two very good training sessions today, and the third one here. We’re looking forward to the game tomorrow.”

The Super Eagles have opened camp in South Africa, with top players including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, and Wilfred Ndidi all expected to play a key role in the game.

Head coach Eric Chelle has also called for intensity and focus, stressing that anything can happen in football, and that Nigeria must start strongly to secure victory.

With qualification pressure mounting and both teams aware of what’s at stake, Troost-Ekong’s warning serves as a timely reminder that no side can be taken lightly at this stage of the campaign.
