Newcastle star makes Manchester United transfer request

Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall still wants to force through a move to Manchester United despite being told he will not be sold this summer.

Michael Carrick has expressed interest in bringing the left-back to Old Trafford to provide cover and competition for Luke Shaw.

Shaw enjoyed one of his best seasons last term, featuring in all 38 of the club’s Premier League games, but United are wary about his workload given Champions League football is on the horizon.

Manchester United made an approach to Newcastle for Hall, who has developed into one of the best left-backs in the Premier League over the past two seasons.

Shaw’s form at St James’ Park since his £35m move from Chelsea earned him an England call-up last year, although he was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the recent World Cup.

Newcastle have already lost manager Eddie Howe, midfielder pair Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, and winger Anthony Gordon this summer.

Unwilling to sell any more integral members of their first-team squad, Newcastle informed Manchester United that Hall was not for sale.

But The Sun say Hall remains keen to force through a move away from Newcastle and has made it clear he wants to join the Red Devils.

Hall felt Howe cost him a place in England’s World Cup squad but still wants to leave despite the change in the dugout, with Matthias Jaissle taking over at St James’ Park.

Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position given Hall is still contracted to the club until 2029 but are aware several players are concerned about the direction of the club.

The Magpies finished just 12th in the Premier League last season after previously qualifying for the Champions League and have seen several key players depart.

Jermaine Jenas, the former Newcastle midfielder, has told Hall that joining Manchester United would be a ‘great move’.

‘I think it’s a great move for him, I really do,’ Jenas, who spent three years at Newcastle, told 10bet.

‘He’s had a fantastic couple of years at Newcastle. I think he was obviously a huge Newcastle United fan after going there from Chelsea and so on, but he’s one of those players that people looked at and said he should probably be at the World Cup.

‘Like I said, he’s had a good, solid year; his development year-in, year-out seems to be getting better and better.

‘For a club like Manchester United to come in for him is a huge step in the right direction—not only for United, because he’s just consistent week-in, week-out, but it’s also a big loss for Newcastle, I’m not going to lie.

‘For him and his personal career, it’s a great move.’
