La Liga: Not time to do stupid things – Gavi on why Flick removed him in game against Sevilla

Barcelona midfielder, Gavi has explained manager, Hansi Flick’s decision to sub him off in their clash against Sevilla in LaLiga.

The Catalan giants beat the Sevilla 4-1 in the game to reduce the gap between them and second-placed and First-placed Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid respectively.

During the game at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, Barcelona took the lead through Robert Lewandowski.

Rubén Vargas put the home side on level terms in the next minute through an assist by Saúl Ñíguez.

Gavi had suffered a head injury in Barcelona’s 1-0 win against Deportivo Alavés in LaLiga but returned to action against Sevilla.

The 20-year-old, however experienced physical discomfort in the first half of the game and was also booked for a bad foul on Adrià Pedrosa in the 38th minute.

For these reasons the manager appeared not ready to take chances and subbed him off by Fermín López at the beginning of the second half.

López returned Barcelona’s lead after coming off the bench, Raphinha made it 3-1 in favour of the visitors and Fermín López was red-carded card for a foul in the 62nd minute.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Eric García made it 4-1 for Barça in 89th minute.

Speaking to the media after the match, the midfielder said, “We are very happy with the game. It is not easy with one less player and we have done very well.

“The result here is very good. I was in a lot of pain and the manager told me that I had a yellow card and that the match was not the time to do anything stupid. Everyone knows that referees don’t cut corners with me.

“Fermín really had a great game. He came on and decided the match. I’m very happy for him. I’ve already said that the league is very long. People already thought that we weren’t going to be there. We’re two points behind and this is a long way off. We have to keep going and win everything that’s left to win this championship, which is what we want.”

Before his substitution against Sevilla, the midfielder had 21 touches and was involved in one key pass.
