Former Celtic goalkeeper, Shay Given, has predicted that Manchester City might likely win the FIFA Club World Cup this year.

According to Given, City boss, Pep Guardiola will be keen on beating everyone in the competition, including his former player, Lionel Messi’s side, Inter Miami.

The former Manchester City goalkeeper pointed to the huge money prize involved as well as the bragging rights as some of the motivations for Man City.

Given told talkSPORT as quoted by Goal, “I think Guardiola will see this as an opportunity to make a bit of history as a club – the first one, get that gold badge on their chest for the next four years. They will be world champions, and that’s a big statement.”

He explained that Guardiola always wants to win any competition he gets involved with.

“He’ll be hurting on the back of not winning anything,” he said.

Speaking further, Given pointed out that Guardiola was disappointed with their FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace.

He said with the addition of some top players to the squad, the Spaniard was ready to win trophies starting with the FIFA Club World Cup with begins in a few days time.

“…I’m sure that he wants to get his hands on this trophy,” the former Aston Villa keeper said.
