EPL: Abramovich hints at return to Chelsea
Roman Abramovich has said he would love to return to Chelsea to say his goodbyes.
The Russian billionaire has broken his silence on the pain of being forced to sell the Premier League club, as a consequence of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Three years after, the British government are still threatening to drag Abramovich to court, to ensure the proceeds are given to victims of the conflict in Ukraine.
The Blues are now owned by a consortium led by Americans Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital for £2.5billion after they bought it from Abramovich in May 2022.
In Abramovich’s new book, ‘Sanctioned: The Inside Story of the Sale of Chelsea FC’ the 58-year-old insisted he was done with club ownership.
He said: “Perhaps one day there would be a situation where I could attend a match and say a proper goodbye, but nothing more than that.
“I don’t have any interest in any role in a football club, certainly not a professional role.
“There might be something where I could help with academies and youngsters, giving greater opportunities to people from difficult backgrounds, if there were an initiative that could make a difference.
“But as for ownership or a professional role at a club, I am done with that in this lifetime.”
