Club World Cup 2025: FIFA ‘snubbed’ Barcelona’s request to play at tournament
Barcelona reportedly “called FIFA” to hand them a late slot at the 2025 Club World Cup.
However, Barca reports that the world football governing body knocked back their approach.
A space opened up at the tournament, after FIFA reached the decision to remove Clu Leon.
The Mexican club were expelled due to multi-ownership rules, as they are run by the same group as domestic rivals Pachuca.
Their spot eventually went to MLS outfit LAFC, as they emerged victorious in a play-in clash with Club America.
FIFA made sure they gave the spot to another team from the CONCACAF region.
Barcelona had thrown their hat into the ring, having missed out on automatic qualification.
But despite being La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup winners in 2024-25, the Blaugrana were not invited to the Club World Cup.
