Operatives of INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja have recovered two stolen vehicles belonging to Nigerian government agencies.
One was recovered in Accra, Ghana, and another in Agadez, Niger Republic.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Adejobi, the first vehicle, a Toyota Prado (2020 model), was stolen during a robbery incident in Abuja. INTERPOL NCB Abuja collaborated with its counterpart in Accra to trace and recover the vehicle in Ghana.
He said, “Operatives of the INTERPOL NCB Abuja, working in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Accra, recovered a Toyota Prado (2020 model) in Accra, Ghana.”
The SUV, which belongs to an unnamed federal government agency, was repatriated to Nigeria and officially handed over to the agency.
“Three suspects were arrested in Ghana and have since been charged to court in Accra. The vehicle was successfully returned to Nigeria and formally handed over to the concerned agency,” Adejobi said.
In a similar operation, INTERPOL NCB Abuja recovered a Toyota Hilux (2018 model) that had been stolen from a federal government staff in the Utako District of Abuja on October 18, 2024.
Adejobi said, “Through extensive investigation and international cooperation facilitated by INTERPOL NCB Niamey, the vehicle was tracked to Agadez, Niger Republic, and officially handed over at the Nigeria-Niger border (Ilela/Konni) to a senior staff representing the agency.”
He noted that the Force is also finalizing efforts to recover two additional stolen vehicles, a “Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV” which were taken from their owners in Abuja in May 2025 and subsequently sold in “Niamey, Niger Republic.”
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operational efficiency of the INTERPOL teams and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to global policing and cross-border security collaboration.
He further expressed appreciation for the support of INTERPOL NCB Accra, INTERPOL NCB Niamey, and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.
The NPF urged citizens to register their vehicles on the police vehicle registry platforms, adding that necessary measures are in place to improve the chances of recovering stolen vehicles.
