Dangote Refinery Launches Fuel Distribution Initiative Nationwide with 4,000 CNG-Powered Tankers

In a groundbreaking move set to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape, Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced today the launch of a comprehensive national initiative that will provide free logistics support to fuel marketers and major consumers across the country, beginning August 15, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement released by Dangote Refinery on Sunday.

The ambitious program represents a major shift in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, with the refinery investing heavily in infrastructure to eliminate logistics costs and improve fuel accessibility nationwide.

Central to the initiative is Dangote Refinery’s substantial investment in 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers, marking one of the largest fleet acquisitions in Nigeria’s petroleum sector. The company is also establishing CNG stations, referred to as “daughter booster stations,” supported by over 100 CNG tankers strategically positioned across the country.

“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability, and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the refinery stated in announcing the initiative.

The program will serve a wide range of stakeholders, including petrol stations, manufacturers, telecommunications companies, the aviation sector, and other large-scale fuel users. All participants purchasing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel from Dangote Refinery will benefit from the enhanced logistics support at no additional cost.

To facilitate major purchases, the refinery is offering attractive credit terms. Companies purchasing a minimum of 500,000 litres will be eligible for an additional 500,000 litres on credit for two weeks, under bank guarantee arrangements.

The initiative is projected to deliver significant economic benefits across multiple sectors. “Key sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunications, and others will also gain from this transformative initiative, as reduced fuel costs will contribute to lower production costs, reduced inflation, and foster economic growth,” according to the company’s announcement.

The program is expected to revitalise previously inactive petrol stations, create employment opportunities, and stimulate small and medium-sized enterprises, while increasing government revenue and improving fuel access in rural and underserved communities.

Dangote Refinery emphasised that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “This initiative is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reflecting our shared commitment to economic progress, stability, and inclusive development,” the company stated.

The refinery acknowledged federal government support, particularly through the Naira-for-Crude scheme, which has helped stabilise fuel supply amid global price volatility. The company described the initiative as “a major revolution in the midstream and downstream sectors” and “a key example of President Bola Tinubu’s bold and reformative economic policies.”

Interested stakeholders can begin registration from June 16 through August 15, 2025, spanning 60 days. The process includes Know Your Customer (KYC) verification requirements.
