Middlesbrough have reached a decision to terminate the contract of manager, Michael Carrick.
This ends the tenure of the Championship’s longest-serving current manager.
Carrick only signed a new three-year contract last summer.
But it has now been terminated by Boro, after the former Manchester United midfielder failed to guide the team into the play-off spots in the last two campaigns.
Carrick led a revival at the Riverside Stadium against the odds. However, he was unable to challenge at the top end of the table.
Middlesbrough won only one of their final six league matches last year and ended the season in 10th, four points away from a play-off position.
Chairman Steve Gibson and the board have conducted a review into the season following the final day defeat by Coventry City and the club have moved to terminate Carrick’s contract.
