Bruno Fernandes has set a new target for Portugal following their success in the UEFA Nations League.
He said that next for him and his teammates is to try to win the FIFA World Cup.
Portugal defeated Spain on penalties on Sunday to clinch their second Nations League trophy.
Fernandes played a key role in the Selecao’s triumph in the Nations League as they beat Spain 5-3 on penalties.
The game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and extra-time with Nuno Mendes (26′) and Cristiano Ronaldo (61′) scoring for Portugal after Martin Zubimendi (21′) and Mikel Oyarzabal (45′) had put the European champions ahead on different occasions.
Speaking after the game, Fernandes talked about his team’s next goal as a team.
He said via Tribal Football, “We want to be at the World Cup and try to win another competition.
“Portugal don’t enter anything to lose. But first we have qualification ahead of us and we’re going to do everything we can to win.”
Portugal are already among the top contenders to win the 2026 World Cup, especially due to their current form and latest Nations League triumph.
