Kwankwaso’s Son Emerges Kano NDC Governorship Candidate’s Running Mate

The governorship candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has unveiled Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
Gwarzo announced the decision on Monday during an NDC stakeholders’ meeting held at the residence of former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The choice of Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of the former governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has already generated interest within Kano’s political circles, with many observers viewing it as a significant development ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gwarzo, a prominent politician in Kano and a longtime ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, described the selection as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure and position it for the forthcoming governorship contest.
Although details of the arrangement remain unclear, supporters at the meeting reportedly welcomed the announcement, saying it would help consolidate the political ideals and influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano State and beyond.
The development is expected to spark fresh political debates and realignments as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
