Impeached Ogun LG Chair, Adedayo Stages Comeback For Council Poll, Says ‘No Regret’
The impeached Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government of Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, has staged a political comeback after being cleared by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to participate in the party’s primaries for chairmanship aspirants scheduled for Saturday
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Publicity Secretary of the Ogun State chapter of the PDP, Afolabi Orekoya.
He said the journalist turned politician was cleared on Tuesday.
Speaking with THE WHISTLER via the telephone on Wednesday, Adedayo confirmed his clearance and readiness to contest the poll, declaring, “I have no regret” over the fraud allegation against Governor Dapo Abiodun, adding, “It’s a fight for the people.”
He said, “President Bola Tinubu has done the right thing to free the LGs from the overarching influence of the governors, which means the people must be served as governance will now be much closer to the people.”
He pledged to “continue what I started before the unfortunate incident but we must fight; the people must come first and I have no regret at all.”
Orekoya on his part urged party members to go to their LG and wards to elect their chairmen and councillors in the 234 wards and 20 LGAs of Ogun State.
He said, “Hundreds of aspirants from the 236 Wards and 20 Local Governments of Ogun State obtained the party’s nomination forms and were screened for eligibility to contest in the Local Government Elections coming up in November.
“Among the aspirants screened at the Party Secretariat in Abeokuta was the former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Chief Wale Adedayo who is recontesting for the Chairmanship position in Ijebu East Local Government.
“The party has scheduled Thursday, 5th, and Saturday, 7th September as respective dates for the Councillorship and Chairmanship Primary Elections across the 236 Wards and 20 LGs.
“The members of the party should go out peacefully for the primaries in their various wards to elect the councillors and chairmanship candidates of their choice.”
THE WHISTLER reports Adedayo, serving as the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government on the platform of the All Progressives Congress was impeached in August 2023 after accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting N10.8bn local government fund.
Abiodun who denied the fraud allegation was accused of instigating the impeachment of Adedayo after other LG Chairmen were seen prostrating to greet the governor in his office.
