The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, has commended Governor Alex Otti for providing excellent leadership in the State, culminating in excellent performances of the State Institutions in National and International competitions.

Speaking on the 100% performance of Abia State University, at the October/November, 2024 National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation exercise, t Professor Okeudo, described the achievement as very remarkable, coming shortly on his assumption of office, on 1st November, 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor further appreciated the Executive Governor for appropriating 20% for the Education sector in the 2024 and 2025 State Government budgets, the highest in the Federation, which has greatly enhanced the development of Education in the State.

The Vice-Chancellor applauded the immeasurable and invaluable contributions of the Hon. Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Eme-Uche, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, Ph.D and other critical stakeholders in achieving this feat.

He promised that the University Management, under his watch, will continue to provide a conducive environment for Teaching, Research and Community Service for greater accomplishments.

The result of the exercise is as follows:

  1. Law – Full
  2. Agriculture – Full
  3. Mass Communication – Full
  4. Educational Management and Planning – Full
  5. Library and Information Science – Full
  6. Social Studies – Full
  7. Geography and Planning – Full
  8. Political Science – Full

Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, empowers the National Universities Commission (NUC) to lay down Minimum Academic Standards for all academic programmes taught in Nigerian Universities and also to accredit such programmes.

The implication of the result is that Full Accreditation status is valid for a period of five (5) years, Interim Accreditation is valid for two (2) years, after which the programme will be revisited.

Abia State University has continued to blaze the trail in the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Professional accreditation of its academic programmes with 100% performances in the previous two (2) exercises.
