Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have neutralised a member of an armed militia in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State after he attempted to snatch a soldier’s rifle and escape custody.

The suspect was initially arrested on September 4, 2025, at Kaskra, Barkin Ladi, by troops of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace. He was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.

Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to him, the suspect confessed to involvement in several criminal activities in the Barkin Ladi area and volunteered to lead security operatives to the hideout of his accomplices to recover weapons.

Troops subsequently launched a follow-up operation on September 5, during which the suspect attempted to escape. He was shot and killed in the process. His remains have been deposited in the morgue.

“Troops of 3 Division/JTF OPEP are leading the charge against armed criminals and will not relent until the entire Joint Operations Area is fully secured from these miscreants,” the statement added.
