Tinubu Hails Nigerian Workers on May Day, Pledges to Prioritize Welfare

In a May Day address, President Bola Tinubu commended Nigerian workers for their vital contributions to the nation’s economy and development, describing them as “the engine of our economy and the secret to our nation’s growth.”

The President’s message, delivered on Thursday, May 1, emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving conditions for workers nationwide.

“Our administration has, and will continue to, prioritise workers’ welfare,” President Tinubu stated, underscoring his government’s focus on labor issues since taking office.

The May Day message acknowledged the diverse workforce that powers Nigeria’s economy, from government employees to private sector workers and entrepreneurs.

“Here’s to everyone — young and old, entrepreneur or employee, private or government employed — whose meaningful contributions help in no small way to the development of our homes, communities, and our dear nation,” the President remarked.

This year’s Workers’ Day celebrations come amid ongoing economic challenges, with the President’s message aiming to reassure workers of the government’s support during these difficult times.

Labor unions have yet to respond to the President’s message, which concluded with an optimistic note about the country’s future: “Together, we will make Nigeria great again.”
