TikTok Ban Averted As Trump, Xi Approve Sale To U.S. Investors

…Trump To Visit China 2026

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping have reached an agreement on the future of TikTok’s American operations following a phone call between the two leaders.

Trump said both sides approved a deal that would see the popular video-sharing app’s U.S business sold to a group of American investors, reportedly including Oracle.

He added that the arrangement would allow TikTok to continue operating in the United States under a structure compliant with US security concerns, with ByteDance licensing its algorithm technology.

The call also set the stage for a face-to-face meeting between Trump and Xi at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea next month.

Trump further confirmed he will travel to China in early 2026, while Xi is expected to visit the United States “at an appropriate time.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the conversation as “productive,” noting progress not only on TikTok but also on wider trade issues.

Trump added that he “appreciated” Xi’s approval of the deal, which comes after months of uncertainty.

TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has faced pressure in the United States over concerns that its data-sharing practices could expose US user information to influence from the Chinese Communist Party.

Earlier this year, the US Supreme Court upheld a law requiring ByteDance to divest from its US operations or face a nationwide ban. Trump has extended the deadline for that divestment four times, most recently pushing it to December.

China’s state news agency Xinhua reported that China supports “commercial negotiations based on market rules” and expects the US to provide a “fair and non-discriminatory business environment” for Chinese companies.

The agreement marks the second major development from Trump and Xi’s direct talks this year.

In June, their discussions on rare earth exports led China to approve limited shipments to US companies. Other disputes, including tariffs, technology restrictions, and agricultural trade, remain unresolved.
