The National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEWS CENTRE) at the Federal Ministry of Environment has issued a flood prediction alert for several states in the country.
The alert was signed by the Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani.
According to the alert, heavy rainfall is expected to lead to flooding in various locations across the country between September 19th and 23rd, 2025.
The affected states and locations include Abia State, specifically Arochukwu; Akwa Ibom State, particularly Abak, Etinan, Ikot-Ekpene, and Uyo; Bauchi State, specifically Bauchi, Jama’‘a, and Kafin-Madaki; Benue State, specifically Ito and Vande-Ikya; Borno State, particularly Dikwa; Cross River State, including Edor, Ikom, and Ogoja; and Kano State, encompassing Bebeji, Gezawa, Gwarzo, Kano, Karaye, Tudun-Wada, and Wudil.
Additionally, the alert affected Kebbi State, specifically Shanga and Yelwa; Kwara State, particularly Lafiagi; Plateau State, specifically Bukuru and Jos; Sokoto State, specifically Isa and Makira; Yobe State, particularly Dapchi; and Zamfara State, specifically Kaura Namoda, Maradun, and Shinkafi.
The National Flood Early Warning Center has urged relevant stakeholders, including state government representatives, to take note of the prediction and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the expected flooding.
