Sokoto Govt Warns Politicians Against Unauthorized Security Measures

The Sokoto State Government has warned political actors against taking unilateral actions under the guise of combating insecurity, describing such moves as dangerous, unlawful, and potentially destabilising.

The caution was issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, Colonel Ahmed Usman (rtd), following reports of a serving senator attempting to deploy members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) from Borno State without prior approval from relevant authorities.

Usman said while the state government acknowledges that the fight against insecurity is a collective responsibility, resorting to self-help without the knowledge or consent of the government can do more harm than good to the safety of the state.

He said that the state government welcomes all initiatives aimed at fostering peace and stability, provided such efforts are properly coordinated and align with the state’s established security architecture.

He noted that security matters are too sensitive to be politicised or manipulated for personal or political gain, warning that no individual has the authority to recruit Yansakai or deploy any armed personnel without express government approval.

“Such unauthorised actions not only undermine the rule of law but also suggest a breakdown of governmental authority,” he added.

The S.A. reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all residents and urged stakeholders to channel their contributions through legal and institutional frameworks.

He warned that any further breaches of protocol in security operations would attract strict consequences, urging collaboration, patience, and strict adherence to the law in addressing the security challenges in the state.
