Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance.

The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has confirmed that the Super Eagles players will start receiving their Nations Cup bonuses on Thursday.

It would be recalled that the Super Eagles players threatened to boycott training and to refuse to travel to Marrakech for their quarterfinal clash against Algeria on Saturday.

Uzoka-Anite blamed the delay on the conversion process to move funds into foreign currency.

She wrote, X: “I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025.

“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay.

“Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster and more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice.

“All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages.”

“We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences.

The Minister confirmed that the players will start receiving their bonuses on Thursday.

Uzoka-Anite concluded: “The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow.

It would be recalled that the Super Eagles boycotted training ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs clash against Gabon over unpaid bonuses before the issue was resolved.

Meanwhile, The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Shehu Dikko, confirmed that the team will travel to Marrakech on Thursday to fine-tune preparations for the clash against Algeria.

He said: “First and foremost, I tell you, the team trained yesterday, definitely. The team will be traveling today, definitely.

“It’s normal for players to ask when alerts will come. But I don’t think any player made any public statement. It started from speculation,” he stated.

“The players will start getting alerts maybe today or tomorrow for the first-round matches, and as they progress, payments for subsequent stages will follow.”

The Super Eagles will take on Algeria on Saturday at the Stade de Marrakech, Ouahat Sidi Brahim at 5pm Nigerian time.
