The Rivers State Government has met with leadership of organized labour unions to discuss key labour matters and reaffirm its commitment to workers’ welfare. The meeting, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, provided a platform for frank discussions on issues affecting workers in the state.

The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, highlighted several interventions aimed at improving working conditions for civil servants.

These include timely payment of salaries and pensions, resolution of salary arrears, and compliance with the minimum wage.

The government also addressed concerns raised by workers, including transportation challenges and pension reforms.

The Administrator announced plans to reintroduce intervention buses to ease workers’ commute and review the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Meanwhile, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Alex Agwanwor, thanked the Administrator for the government’s efforts to address workers’ welfare and appreciated the openness to dialogue.

He pledged continued cooperation between labour unions and the government.

The Rivers State Government assured workers of its commitment to their welfare and urged them to continue delivering quality service to the state.

The WHISTLER reports that the meeting is seen as a step towards promoting industrial harmony and improving working conditions for civil servants in Rivers State.
