Rainstorm displaces over 40 households in Bauchi
A heavy rainstorm has displaced over 40 households and destroyed farmlands in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Adamu Nayola, Director of relief and rehabilitation at the Bauchi state emergency management agency (SEMA), said although no lives were lost, many families are in urgent need of help.
He blamed the flooding on a poorly built culvert by a construction company, which failed to handle the heavy flow of water. “The damage could have been less if the culvert was properly done,” Nayola said.
He added that SEMA has started assessing the situation and will soon send relief items to affected communities.
This incident comes as the federal government raised a red alert for possible flooding in 11 states.
Earlier in April, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, listed Bauchi among over 30 states, including the FCT, likely to face serious floods in 2025.
