PSG risk Champions League expulsion, transfer ban over Mbappe debt

Paris Saint-Germain are at risk of being expelled from the Champions League because of the €55m unpaid wages dispute with Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe left the Ligue 1 giants as a free agent to join Real Madrid this summer.

Although the 25-year-old has severed ties with PSG, he remains in contact with his former employers.

That is because Mbappe is claiming that he is owed €55m by the French champions.

He is said to be due the final payment of a €36m signing bonus, the last three months of his salary and an ‘ethics bonus’ for the period of April-June 2024.

Le Monde reports that Mbappe’s lawyers have taken the case to the legal committee of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, LFP, and, through an intermediary of the French Football Federation, FFF, to European football’s governing body at UEFA.

The LFP legal committee has the power to impose a transfer ban on PSG until the situation has been resolved.

With Mbappe also inviting UEFA into the case, they can cancel a club’s licence in continental competition, which means PSG could potentially be prevented from gracing the Champions League.
