The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the kidnapping of a director working with the State Board of Internal Revenue Service, Sir Aribibia John Fubara

The command has also launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with a view to releasing the victim, abducted on Saturday around 8:20pm at Okirika Waterfront, near the Marine Base area of Port Harcourt.

Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko made the disclosure while confirming the incident to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

SP Iringe-Koko, noted that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu had directed tactical units of the command to ensure the victim’s unconstitutional release.

She said, “The command is aware of the incident and the CP has directed tactical units in the command to ensure that the victim is released unhurt.

“A manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book”.

Younger brother of the victim, Emmanuel Fubara, who broke the news said his elder brother was kidnapped at a pub within Okirika waterfront where he usually hangs out to relax.

He noted that the gunmen numbering about six stormed the location from the waterway, using a boat and also whisked his older brother away via the same route.

He said, “The incident happened on Saturday night, a few minutes past 8pm, at the Okirika waterside axis. He normally hangs out the neighbourhood to relax and take a few bottles of beer, it has been like that over the years.

“All of a sudden, some guys came with boats from the waterside jetty and walked direct to him (Fubara), some persons who saw the gunmen started running helter-skelter for their safety, because they were shooting rapid shots into the air, after they left, people came out and discovered that it was my elder brother that was kidnapped and whisked away.”
