The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it will commence the enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance across the state on February 1 in compliance with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act,

It stated that the Act highlights the legal requirement for all vehicle owners to possess valid third-party insurance before operating their vehicles on public roads.

“This exercise is designed to protect road users, ensure accountability, and promote compliance with traffic laws, ” it added.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said in a statement that the IGP
Kayode Egbetokun has approved the exercise. adding that “all vehicles found without valid third-party insurance will be seized and taken to the nearest police formation.

“Such vehicles will only be released upon the presentation of valid insurance documents.

” The Command also issues a strict warning to officers participating in the enforcement to avoid any form of unprofessional conduct, particularly extortion, which will attract severe disciplinary action.

The command appealed to all vehicle owners to ensure compliance with this legal obligation to avoid inconveniences as it remained resolute in its commitment to fostering safety, enforcing the rule of law, and enhancing public trust in its operations across the state.
