The police in Anambra have arrested two suspects linked to the April 13 attack on police and military officers in Enugwu-Agu village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North Local Government Area.

The Anambra police disclosed this in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Tuesday.

The incident, which saw the burning of a Nigerian Army operational vehicle, occurred during an assault by armed individuals on security personnel and community stakeholders.

According to a statement, the suspects: Uche Egwu, 35 and Jindo Onyeka, 32, were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu.

“The two suspects confessed their involvement and provided useful information on other persons involved in the act,” the police said.

Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the attack as “a grave and deliberate act to test the will of the security agencies and an attack on the soul of a nation.”

He commended the security operatives for managing the situation without any recorded loss of life and ordered a manhunt for other suspects still at large.

He called for support to ensure the safety of security personnel, stressing that those who protect the nation should not be exposed.
