Police Arrest Suspected Killers Of Bayelsa Monarch, Governor’s In-Law
The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested the suspected killers of the traditional ruler of the Kalaba community, Odeinyefa Ogbolosingha and Samuel Oburo, an in-law to Governor Douye Diri.
The incident occurred in 2022 and the arrested suspects are Gideon Atama, 32; Bethlehem Nwanlia, 49; and Clever Ovo, 33.
At a press briefing on Monday, the police revealed that one of the suspects involved, Perekebi Nwanlia, is deceased while Atama and Bethlehem Nwanlia remain at large.
The Bayelsa Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, who led the briefing, noted that Ovo is currently in police custody and had confessed to being a member of the notorious Endurance Amagbein gang.
The gang’s leader, Endurance Amagbein, has been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for the alleged killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, in 2024.
Idu stated that Gideon Atama was arrested while wearing an army camouflage uniform and was equipped as if he were a soldier.
During a search, the command said operatives uncovered a mobile phone containing pictures of various rifles and voice notes from previous operations.
According to the police, the suspects also provided information about sponsors involved in the vandalism of facilities and installations in the region.
Similarly, police attached to the Labrado Security Houseboat in Igbikiba, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, apprehended a boat captain named Daniel Williams, 20, for his role in alleged pipeline vandalization.
Idu said that Williams was involved in a recent attack on the 18-inch Tebidaba-Brass trunkline at Lascogbene community, operated by Oando.
“He allegedly communicated with a suspect, Endurance Amagbein, to deliver equipment for pipeline vandalism.
“This equipment included two filing machines, five blades, five cutters, two machetes, five rechargeable headlamps, two Itel phones, two radio sets, as well as foodstuffs and toiletries, which would aid in his oil bunkering activities.
“This occurred despite warnings issued to security agencies in the Niger Delta by President Ahmed Tinubu. Williams will soon face charges in court,” Idu said.
