Eid-El-Kabir: Police Beef Up Security In Lagos

Ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations, the Lagos State Police Command has announced the deployment of massive security assets across the state to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free festive period.

In a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson of the command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that a watertight security arrangement has been put in place, with the deployment of personnel from various tactical and conventional units.

The security architecture involves elite teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Rapid Response Squad (RRS), EKO Strike Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Special Protection Unit (SPU), K9 and Mounted Troops, alongside intelligence and surveillance teams.

“The Commissioner of Police has deployed strike forces of the NPF and tactical squads officers from the Police Mobile Force, Counter-terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Department, Anti-bomb squads, and conventional teams across the state, with armoured personnel carriers and other vehicular patrol teams, to strictly focus and provide security and protection at all Eid praying grounds, Mosques and religious facilities, venues of gatherings and celebrations, and other area of recreations so as to guarantee safety and adequate security and protection of the Muslim faithfuls (sic) and other people of opposite religious throughout the State who will be joining our Muslim community in the celebration,” Hundeyin said.

“Particular security attention is placed and focused on recreation centers, and other public spaces where large gatherings are anticipated. These spaces are going to be properly policed to ensure effective crowds control,traffic management and ease of access and movement throughout Lagos State.”

He also said the police has identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the state, where anti-crime patrols and strike teams have been stationed to prevent any breach of peace.

Furthermore, Hundeyin emphasized cooperation among sister security agencies, including the military, paramilitary forces, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), to enhance overall effectiveness in traffic control and emergency response.

“To achieve remarkable success of these security arrangements, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has mandated all officers and other personnel of the Command to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism, courtesy and politeness in ensuring that the rights of all citizens are respected.

“They are to be courteous, polite, professional but firm in carrying out their official duties and other obligations during the period in whatever capacity and wherever they are posted. The Commissioner of Police, therefore wishes to implore all Lagosians to be law-abiding, tolerant, respect and cooperate with their Police Officers in the discharge of these responsibilities,” he added.

Parents and guardians were advised to caution their children and wards against being involved in acts that could disrupt public peace.

The Command’s spokesperson also warned that anyone caught engaging in unlawful behavior would face the full weight of the law.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities or security concerns to the police via 08063299264 or 08065154338.
