The Borno State Police Command on Tuesday announced that it arrested 1,541 suspects, secured 1,164 convictions, and discharged nine cases within three months, ending August 12.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Social Vice Unit, ACP Babalola Abioye, disclosed this during a press briefing at the RRS office in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Abioye explained that the cases involved social vices among youths and other related crimes, including prostitution, drug dealing and consumption, human trafficking, thuggery, and gangsterism.

He said, “Between May 5 and August 12, 2025, 1,541 suspects have been arrested so far.

“The number of screened and released was 247, 1,197 have been charged to court; 1,164 were convicted; 1,164 paid fines; 64 are in detention; 24 suspects were remanded while nine suspects were discharged and acquitted.

“Value of the exhibit is roughly estimated at N27.1m”.

Abioye credited the achievement to the recent rejuvenation of the RRS by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

The Borno RRS, established on January 10, 2020, has a mandate to protect lives and property, patrol highways in the state, provide VIP escorts, and perform other duties assigned by the Commissioner of Police.

During the review period, Abioye said the squad carried out numerous operations, including routine patrols and escort missions across Borno State and beyond, with a personnel strength of 588 from both regimented and non-regimented organisations.

He said, “The outfit has remained resolute in carrying out its statutory obligations which were the provision of security along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.

“Our patrols commence from 0600-1800hrs daily when the Military opens the road at 0700hrs and closes by 1800hrs”.

Abioye added that the rejuvenation of the RRS also led to the creation of an enforcement body comprising all security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service, NDLEA, NAPTIP, DSS, Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
