Abia state Governor, Alex Otti, has said that his administration will continue to support the families of military personnels who have lost their lives in active service.

Speaking during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at the Armed Forces Remembrance Arcade, Umuahia, on Wednesday, Governor Otti announced that financial support had been provided to the spouses of fallen heroes, and the state government had taken over the education sponsorship of their children up to university level.

“My promise is that we shall not leave anyone behind. Whatever happens in the course of your assignment here in Abia, you are guaranteed the generous support of the State Government,” he said.

The governor used the occasion to honor the sacrifices of nine military personnel who lost their lives in Abia State over the past year, including Staff Sergeant Charles Ugochukwu and Lance Corporal Owolabi Ojo, among others.

He urged Nigerians to reflect on the selfless service of the armed forces and called for collective action in supporting those who defend the nation’s sovereignty.

Furthermore, Otti also praised the efforts of the Nigerian military and other security agencies in combating crime and ensuring peace in the state.

He expressed gratitude to the leadership of these establishments for their partnership with the state government, which has resulted in improved security outcomes.

In his speech, the governor emphasized the need for a united push against extremism, corruption, and violence, advocating for justice and meritocracy as cornerstones of national unity.

He also called on citizens to collaborate with security agencies to tackle criminal activities in their communities.

“Today’s event invites us to reflect on the enormity of sacrifices made by our compatriots and to determine how far we are willing to go in building a nation that is truly the pride of the human race,” Otti said.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual celebration held to honor the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and appreciate active military personnels in the country.
