NPFL: Amuneke Backs Heartland To Improve After Poor Start

Heartland coach, Emmanuel Amuneke is confident that the club will improve despite their poor start to the 2024-25 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The Naze Millionaires have failed to win any game in their first four matches of the season, losing three and drawing one.

Heartland suffered another loss to Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Sunday, the encounter ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

Amuneke was full of praise for his players for their performance in the game despite failing to get the maximum points.

He said: “It was a very intensive and good game and we expected it because both teams are going into some sort of transformation.

“Unfortunately we conceded the goal at the point we lost concentration. But in the second half, we controlled the game and we tried to mount pressure on our opponent. We couldn’t take our chances unfortunately. Generally it was a good game for both teams.

“The changes were effective because our left back was having some challenges and we just have to bring him out to stabilise the defence.”

Amuneke reiterated that the team is going through a rebuilding process and pleaded for patience from the fans, while he is confident that the team will bounce back.

He said: “Heartland is an historical team and over the years a lot has happened. We came in trying to stabilise the team and trying to see how we can bring different ideas.

“We also have to know that Rome was not built in a day. This is what we are trying to do to establish that confidence that people can believe in their team and hopefully the team will pick up.”

Amuneke took over the helm of affairs at the beginning of the season and he is still looking for his first win in the NPFL.

Heartland will be back in action against Niger Tornadoes after the international break at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on October 6.
