NFF Set to Extend Madugu’s Reign as Super Falcons Coach With Two-Year Deal

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has confirmed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has offered him a two-year contract extension following his successful spell with the women’s national team.

According to Madugu, the new deal will run from October 1, 2025, to October 31, 2027, covering key international tournaments, including the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and, should Nigeria qualify, the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The 61-year-old tactician took charge of the Super Falcons after Randy Waldrum’s resignation last year and led the team to victory at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, reaffirming Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the continent.

As the NFF prepares to formalise the two-year contract for Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu, expectations are high for continuity and growth in women’s football in the country.

Madugu—who guided the Super Falcons to WAFCON glory in 2024—has earned praise for his tactical discipline, player management, and calm leadership style. His renewal, set to run from October 1, 2025, to October 31, 2027, signals the NFF’s confidence in a coach credited with restoring the team’s competitive edge after Waldrum’s exit.

Under the new deal, Madugu is expected to lead Nigeria through a critical phase, including the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and potential qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Analysts believe the continuity could help stabilise the Super Falcons’ transition, deepen squad development, and strengthen Nigeria’s standing as Africa’s most successful women’s team. However, expectations will be immense—from maintaining continental dominance to improving global competitiveness.
