NAF Conducts 8,665 Missions In 18 Months
The Nigerian Air Force has conducted 8,665 missions across various operations within the last 18 months.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, disclosed this on Thursday during a visit by the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda to Abuja.
The CAS said the air force also recorded a total of 9,928 sorties within 15,915 flying hours during the same period.
Abubakar said the operations targeted terrorism, crude oil theft, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities that undermine the nation’s stability.
“These missions were conducted across different theatres of operations, such as Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East, Operation Fansan Yamma in the North-West, and Operation Delta Safe in the Niger Delta,” he said.
Other key operations include Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke in Plateau State and the North-Central region, UDO KA in the South-East, and Awatse in the South-West.
“These missions were conducted across different theatres of operations, such as Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East, Operation Fansan Yamma in the North-West, and Operation Delta Safe in the Niger Delta,” he said.
The Air Chief commended NAF personnel for their professionalism and resilience in tackling the country’s evolving security threats.
“The Nigerian Air Force has remained steadfast in its mission to secure Nigeria’s airspace and contribute effectively to national security. These achievements underscore our relentless air efforts in all theatres of operation,” he added.
Abubakar stressed the importance of sustained support from the Ministry of Defence, which he described as essential to maintaining the momentum of their operations.
During his visit, Ambassador Aduda assured the military of the ministry’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its support for the armed forces.
He revealed plans to expedite the review of the national defence policy, aimed at enhancing collaboration among the services and addressing welfare concerns.
“One of the key areas we are exploring is mortgage financing for military personnel, similar to the Federal Mortgage Bank model for civil servants. This initiative could enable officers to own homes while serving and ensure they have a place to retire to,” Aduda said.
