Many public office holders lack moral training – Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II, on Wednesday said most public officers were not well brought up.

Sanusi noted that many people occupying public offices lacked proper moral upbringing and training.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sanusi stressed that public office is not a place to make money.

He said: “Many people in public office today were simply not well brought up. When I was in Kings College in Form 1 and 2, we had a class called Civics.

“Civics was taught by the Principal of Kings College himself, so from a very young age you are taught certain values, you are taught honesty and integrity, you are taught the issues of human rights, and you know it’s important to leave a good name.

“You know it’s important that when you go into a public office, it’s an opportunity to serve and not to make money.

“Many people do not have that upbringing and training and many people go into government for the wrong reasons.

“You don’t go into government to make money, if you want to make money you should become a business man. Aliko Dangote is the richest man in Africa and he has never been a commissioner or a minister.

“The entire value system has been eroded and we have been ruled by people who have no values, they have no name behind them and they have no desire to leave a name after them.”
