The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), announced on Sunday that it has dislodged all illegally parked tankers around the Dangote Refinery and across the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
This action follows repeated warnings issued by the government against such infractions and is aimed at preventing disruptions to vehicular movement, ensuring unimpeded access for trucks entering and exiting the Dangote Refinery, and safeguarding traffic flow along the Lekki-Ajah corridor.
In a statement issued by LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, cautioned that the indiscriminate parking of tankers, particularly around the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Free Trade Zone, and Lekki-Ajah Motorway, will no longer be tolerated.
Giwa revealed that, in addition to the enforcement at the refinery and free trade zone, LASTMA also removed 120 illegally parked vehicles, including private cars and commercial buses, from bridges spanning from Ebute-Ero to Ejalonibu on Lagos Island.
He lamented that despite repeated warnings, motorists continue to use bridges as unauthorised parking and garage spaces.
Giwa emphasised that the government will sustain surveillance in these areas and leverage the recently introduced ‘Eto’ system, which regulates the entry and exit of trucks at the Dangote Refinery.
“All vehicles, including tankers, private cars, and commercial buses impounded during this enforcement exercise, will be promptly arraigned before the Lagos State Mobile Courts,” Giwa stated. “This serves as both a punitive measure and a deterrent to others engaging in similar illegal activities.”
The state government has appealed to all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to facilitate seamless movement and promote orderliness across the state.
