Injury Forces Djokovic Out Of ATP Finals
Tennis legend, Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the 2024 ATP finals because of injury, failing to defend the title he won last year.
The injury has ended his season abruptly as he aims to return to action next year. He qualified for the event as the sixth most successful player on the ATP Tour this season.
He won 37 of his 46 matches in 2024 to seal a place in the event, but he has now confirmed that injury will not allow him to participate.
Djokovic said, “I was really looking forward to being there, but due to an ongoing injury, I won’t be playing next week.
“Apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon.”
He failed to win any ATP event in 2024, the first season since 2005, and only the fourth since 2008 where he has not won any of the four Grand Slam titles.
This will mark the first time since 2001 that the ATP Finals won’t feature any of the “Big Three”—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, or Djokovic.
After Djokovic’s withdrawal, the ATP Finals lineup is set for the tournament in Turin, Italy, from November 10-17.
Norway’s Casper Ruud, Australia’s Alex de Minaur, and Russia’s Andrey Rublev secure the final spots, joining Italy’s Jannik Sinner, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, and the United States’ Taylor Fritz.
Djokovic has won the ATP Finals a record seven times. He defeated current No. 1 Jannik Sinner to win the title last year.
He is expected to return to action at the Australian Open in January.
Djokovic will be aiming for an all-time record of 25th major singles title – putting him clear of Australia’s Margaret Court – and a 100th tour-level trophy in Melbourne.
