The member representing Ideato North and South at the Federal House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has flagged off the construction of a 1.2km drainage at Ugwuano, Ozuomee, and Urualla communities of Imo State.

The project, according to the lawmaker, was to redirect water that is causing heavy flooding that is threatening to wash off link roads to the Orashi River.

Ugochinyere, however, called on the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the federal government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to intervene and proffer a lasting solution to the erosion menace in some parts of his constituency.

He said, “The measure to construct 1.2km of new drainage is just to redirect the water that is causing the heavy flood and threatening or about to cut off the only linking road. I am channelling the water directly to the Orashi River.

”I am calling on FG, works, NDDC, and the state govt to intervene by finding a lasting solution to the problem.

“The work which took off this week will run nonstop until the new drainage is completed.

“I promised to fix the problem when I visited the community a few weeks ago, and here I am now fulfilling that promise, Umuchima.”
