I Trust Tinubu’s Handling of Nigeria’s Challenges – Gowon

Former Nigeria’s military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon (retd.), on Saturday commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts toward rapid socio-economic development in Nigeria, news.ng reports.

Gowon, who made the remarks while addressing State House journalists after a brief meeting with the President at the Villa, informed the press that his visit was to appreciate the President’s efforts in moving the country forward.

“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he is doing for the country. We had a look at all the good work that the President is doing and the progress that Nigeria is making economically and otherwise,” Gowon said.

When asked about the specific areas the President should improve, the former Head of State, who will turn 92 in October, maintained that the Nigerian leader is doing well in virtually all segments.

“Isn’t he doing the best he can all round? So, there is no particular place, every other area, political, economic, social, etc,” he stated.

While he refused to identify areas the President should improve, the former military general, who was at the helm of affairs at the age of 32, admitted that security remains one of Nigeria’s pressing challenges but expressed confidence in Tinubu’s administration in finding a lasting solution.

“And of course, the major problem that we have today is the security in the area. He is doing everything to deal with those for the good of all of Nigeria. So, there is no particular place,” he said.

He therefore called on Nigerians to trust the President, who he believes can truly address insecurity in the country.

“Well, if I say that the problem that is happening today, it is only the government today, that is Mr President, that can really deal with it. And he is dealing with it the best he can without creating any problem for Nigeria and for the country.

“The government is handling it the best it can to ensure that Nigeria, in the end, achieves the peace that it deserves, that it requires and it deserves, he said.
