Hamas Rejects Trump’s Proposal To Relocate Palestinians In Gaza To Egypt, Jordan

Hamas has opposed a proposal made by President Donald Trump to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan.

Trump on January 26, proposed that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians should leave Gaza to enable a “clean out” of the whole strip, suggesting that they move to neighbouring countries, either “temporarily or could be long-term”.

The U.S. suggested Jordan, which already hosts more than 2.7 million Palestinian refugees, and Egypt.

“I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing at a different location where they can maybe live in peace for a change,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One.

“You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say: ‘You know, it’s over.’”

In a statement released on Monday, Hamas condemned the plan, describing it as an attempt to undermine the Palestinian cause and displace its people.

According to Hamas, the proposal is an “aggressive scheme” that disregards the historical and national rights of Palestinians.

“The Palestinian people will not accept any plan that seeks to uproot or displace them,” the statement read, according to Xinhua News.

Hamas therefore called on the US administration to end its Israeli support, which the group claims violates Palestinian rights, while urging Arab and Islamic nations, particularly Egypt and Jordan, to oppose the relocation proposal.
